MERCED SHAKES

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement:

We recognize that Merced Shakespearefest performs, rehearses, and creates on the occupied ancestral lands of the Yokuts and Miwok peoples.

Merced Shakes is a grassroots community theater; it is dedicated to creating plays that reflect and embrace the diversity of our community.

About 400 years ago William Shakespeare wrote about all traits and issues human – romantic love, political betrayal, murder, abuse of power, enduring friendship, and most of all about the human soul and its search for justice. “…till you have heard me in my true complaint and given me justice, justice, justice!” (from King Lear)

Merced Shakespearefest is anti-racist, anti-sexist, and does not tolerate any form of bigotry. We embody these values by casting and producing plays guided by the principles of equity and inclusion, to create representations of any gender and all kinds of groups, including different cultures, races, ethnicities, and abilities, genders and gender expressions, to ensure a safe, inclusive, accessible, anti-racist environment in which individuals can work, play and create!
